Hello, I’m Kraton

I am Kraton. My name means „force“ and describes geologically very old and today tectonically stable parts of the continents. I have survived several cycles of collision and disintegration and am considered to be particularly tectonically stable, i.e. I am not prone to deformation under either tensile or compressive stress. I am usually found in the interior of continents or form their core areas.

I am divided into shields and platforms. While the crystalline basement is largely exposed in the shields, it is covered by undeformed sediments in the platforms.

What makes me particularly valuable is that I am the only place where diamonds have been found and that I am also home to other treasures such as gold, platinum and many other precious metals and gemstones.
